Traders Hill Farm
What is Aquaponics?
It's a perfect symbiotic, self-contained ecosystem that produces organically grown vegetables & fish sustainably harvested.
Aquaponics = Aquaculture + Hydroponics
Quite simply, we convert fish waste water into plant food.
Aquaponics combines aquaculture (raising aquatic animals, such as fish) and hydroponics (growing plants in water without soil). Fish live in tanks that yield valuable fish excrement water, which is filtered and converted into nitrogen-rich food for the growing plants.
This nutrient-dense water is filtered via Trader Hill Farm’s proprietary filtration system and pumped into floating plant grow-beds to fertilize the plants and then returned as PH-neutral water to the fish tanks.
Our Aquaponics Process
An Evolution in Farming, Traders Hill Farm Aquaponics efficiently combines aquaculture and hydroponics.
Step 1
Fish Fuel
Tilapia drive our process, living and swimming in spacious, environment controlled water tanks.
Step 2
Good Bacteria
Through natural biological excretions, they enrich the water with a host of beneficial bacteria.
Step 3
Natural Plant Food
Using our proprietary process, we filter the bacteria and convert it into nitrogen – a vital plant food component.
Step 4
Plant Nourishment
We use this nutrient-dense water to irrigate and fertilize our greenhouse plant beds.
Step 5
Back to the Beginning
We then recycle the used liquid back to the fish tanks as pH-neutral water, where the cycle begins anew.
• We use less than 10% of water usage compared to ground farming.
• We plant more per square foot than traditional farms.
• Our products grow faster than traditional farms.
• We never use toxic chemicals – None. Nada. Zilch.
• We have more growing cycles per year.
Step 6
Fully Sustainable
The entire process is a self-contained ecosystem that uses less than 10% of the water and less than 60% of the land needed by conventional farming.
Benefits of Aquaponics
Aquaponics = Sustainability
Our aquaponics method uses just 10 percent of the water used by traditional ground farms, and our proprietary closed-loop recirculating system recycles and filters the water creating a true zero waste environment.
Our delicious, specialty produce is grown year-round in a controlled environment agriculture (CEA) method.
Traders Hill Farm’s produce grows inside greenhouses, whose protective walls prevent infestations, require zero soil, and eliminates the need for pesticides or herbicides.
Our aquaponics process means the greens on your table are clean, safe and fresh – the perfect ingredients to a happy and healthy family.
